MTCC Asia Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign

The technology promotion campaign aims to enhance the engagement with governments on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with other Asian maritime countries, by providing a series of technological services. It aims to disseminate and transfer GHG technologies, conventions, and maritime standards in the respect of MARPLOL Annex VI, 2020 IMO Sulphur emissions limit, and implementation of the GHG initial strategy of IMO, by visiting relevant Asian countries and to help relevant Asian countries to assess, determine the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of GHG reduction by researching and consulting. 

Four technology campaigns have been successfully held by MTCC-Asia and its partners to date. 

On 10th October, 2020, MTCC-Asia and Malaysia jointly held the Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign. The Campaign, organized by MTCC-Asia, Marine Department Malaysia and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), was attended remotely by 40 representatives from China and Malaysia shipping industry. 

After the welcome speech and the introduction of the MTCC-Asia future activities by representatives of MTCC-Asia, presentations related to ship energy efficiency promotion in Malaysia, theory and practice on ship speed reduction for promotion of energy efficiency, and in-situ introduction of the research projects in SMU integrated engine room lab was delivered by Malaysian delegate, MTCC-Asia technical officer and SMU lecturers, respectively. The Campaign workshop ended with panel discussion. 

On 26th November, 2020, MTCC-Asia and Myanmar jointly held the Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign. The Campaign, organized by MTCC-Asia, Myanmar Maritime University (MMU) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), was attended remotely by 38 representatives from shipping industry of China and Myanmar. 

After the welcome address by Vice president, Prof. Shi Xin, on behalf of SMU, Prof. Jin Yongxing, the Director of MTCC-Asia Council and Prof. Ruan Wei, the Head of MTCC-Asia, presentations related to an introduction of ship energy efficiency promotion in Myanmar, the theory and practice on ship speed reduction for promotion of energy efficiency and introduction of the research projects in SMU integrated engine room lab were delivered by MMU experts, MTCC-Asia technical officers and SMU lecturers, respectively. The Campaign workshop ended with panel discussion. 

On 7th December, 2020, MTCC-Asia and the Philippines jointly held the Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign. The Campaign, organized by MTCC-Asia, Maritime Academy of Asia & the Pacific (MAAP) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), was attended remotely by about 40 representatives from shipping industry of China and the Philippines. 

After the welcome speech by representative from MTCC-Asia and Philippine participants C/E Rodolfo D. Paiso delivered a presentation on Promotion of Ship Energy Efficiency in the Philippines. He introduced the background of the Philippine perspective, national strategy on maritime energy efficiency objectives, outcomes and targets, existing measure to reduce emission and capacity building to promote energy efficiency. The presentations were delivered by representatives from MTCC-Asia and Philippine participants respectively. The Campaign workshop ended with panel discussion. 

On 16th December, 2020, MTCC-Asia and Bangladesh jointly held the Virtual Regional Ship Energy Efficiency Technology Promotion Campaign. The Campaign, organized by MTCC-Asia, Bangabanhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), was attended remotely by about 35 representatives from shipping industry of China and Bangladesh. 

Prof. Jin Yongxing, on behalf of MTCC-Asia and Capt. Kzai Ali Imam, on behalf of Bangladesh participants delivered an opening address. During the forum, Prof. Md. Maniurul Kabir, the Chief Engineer and Ship Surveyor of Department of Shipping, Bangladesh, made a presentation on Promotion of Ship Energy Efficiency from operation and maintenance perspective. First the background of the Bangladesh perspective was introduced, followed by presentation of the practical aspects of the topic. The theory and practice on ship speed reduction for promotion of energy efficiency and introduction of the research projects on the application of Global Navigation Satellite System in promoting ship energy efficiency were presented by MTCC-Asia technical officers and SMU lecturers, respectively. The Campaign workshop ended with panel discussion. 

The remaining 2 technology promotion campaigns with Indonesia and Cambodia will be delivered in the 1st quarter of 2021.
