MTCC-Caribbean 1st Regional Workshop

MTCC-Caribbean hosted its first regional event at the Chaguaramas Campus (UTT) in Trinidad and Tobago.

The event was an opportunity to:

  • Raise awareness of MTCC-Caribbean across the region;
  • Identify national priorities, needs and barriers; and
  • Provide overview of MARPOL Annex VI Ratification and Implementation in the region.

Notable participants included the President of the University of Trinidad and Tobago, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Trinidad and Tobago, a representative from the EU, the project officer of the IMO’s PCU, the Regional Maritime Advisor and a delegation from MTCC Latin America which included their Director.
The first regional workshop set the stage for the regional and national workshops to follow. The workshop saw the adoption of the Regional Steering Committee (RSC) which will be capacitated upon approval by the various regional maritime administrations. The workshop also provided valuable feedback from both regional and local stakeholders via the breakout session which was used to identify the needs across the region pertaining to MARPOL Annex VI.
