MTCC Latin America’s First Regional Workshop “Maritime Decarbonization through Energy Efficiency Technology Solutions”
The First Latin America Regional Workshop of the GMN Phase II titled “Maritime Decarbonization through Energy Efficiency Technology Solutions” took place at the International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP) in Panama City on March 18-19. The event brought together key maritime stakeholders, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and experts from across the region to explore sustainable solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in shipping. Aligned with global climate goals, the workshop provided a platform for knowledge exchange, best practices, and showcased energy efficiency technologies to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon maritime industry in Latin America.
Participants engaged in discussions on strategies and policies to improve energy efficiency, optimize ship operations, and adopt cleaner maritime technologies. Through case studies and expert presentations, attendees gained insights into practical solutions for sustainable growth in the regional shipping industry. The event fostered collaboration among stakeholders, encouraging partnerships to implement decarbonization strategies and position Latin America at the forefront of maritime sustainability.
Benefitting the Future: Representatives from 20 Latin American countries participated, underscoring their commitment to sustainable maritime practices. The workshop also focused on workforce development, leadership, and capacity-building initiatives for a diverse maritime industry. Additionally, the involvement of women’s organizations, such as WISTA, Red MAMLa, and Wins, highlighted the role of women in driving innovation and energy efficiency in the sector. The initiative promoted gender equality and empowered women to play a central role in shipping decarbonization and sustainability.
