Regional Industry Alliances

GMN is working to establish Regional Industry Alliances (RIAs) across its MTCC regions to drive the adoption of energy-efficient technologies and foster public-private partnerships. With defined governance and through clear membership criteria, these alliances will unite maritime industry leaders, government agencies, and financial institutions to create a supportive environment for low-carbon solutions.

The RIAs will play a vital role in delivering practical services - technology demonstrations, pilot coordination, technical assistance, and tailored capacity building (workshops, training of trainers, etc) - to accelerate private sector uptake of energy efficient solutions. They will facilitate financing by de-risking pilot projects, preparing bankable proposals, and linking members to concessional and private finance, while actively engaging regulators to align national policy and standards with IMO GHG initiatives. Each RIA will track performance with KPIs (number of pilots, investment mobilised, energy savings, and GHG reductions) and pursue a sustainable business model (membership fees, paid services, and initial donor support) to ensure continuity and regional scaling of successful solutions.
By connecting with IMO GHG initiatives, such as the Green Voyage 2050 Global Industry Alliance (GIA), the RIAs will contribute to global efforts to reduce emissions in the maritime industry.
