Type of Activity:
National Workshop
When:

San Pedro Sula, Honduras | May 29-30, 2025

MTCC Latin America successfully hosted the First National Workshop under the GMN II – Global Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres Network Project, Phase 2, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Maritime decarbonisation is a global challenge that requires action and strategic collaboration. This event convened national and international experts, government officials, industry leaders, academics, and environmental organisations to share innovative strategies and practical solutions steering the transition toward a more sustainable and low-emission maritime transport sector.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Innovative strategies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions aligned with climate goals
  • Quantifiable energy efficiency solutions advancing maritime decarbonisation in Honduras
  • Financing opportunities for sustainable maritime projects
  • Regional initiatives including maritime education, green shipping corridors, and green ports
  • Promoting gender equality within maritime energy efficiency initiatives

The European Union’s participation included a detailed presentation of the Global Gateway Programme, and a field visit to Puerto Cortés, identifying real opportunities for energy efficiency improvements at the ship-port interface. This also involved developing a preliminary national maritime decarbonisation roadmap.

A key feature of the workshop was a hands-on session on the Life Cycle Assessment of Marine Fuels, evaluating GHG emissions from well-to-tank and tank-to-wake stages. The event concluded with a high-level panel discussing strategies to enhance women’s participation in decarbonisation efforts through a dedicated Gender Action Plan.
