Advancing Renewable Energy Integration through Solar Power and Battery Storage in Tonga

Beneficiary country: Tonga

The pilot project is being undertaken to support the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy through the integration of onsite solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at port facilities.

This initiative aims to increase the use of renewable energy, reduce reliance on conventional power sources and improve overall energy efficiency in port operations. The installation of solar PV systems will enable the generation of clean electricity to support operational energy requirements, while battery storage will enhance energy management by storing excess solar power for use when needed. By combining renewable energy generation with energy storage solutions, the project seeks to reduce energy costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen the resilience and sustainability of port operations.
