Reducing Vessel Emissions through Advanced Exhaust Treatment Technologies (DOC/POC) in Vanuatu

Beneficiary country: Vanuatu

A pilot project is being implemented to reduce air pollutant emissions from maritime operations through the installation of advanced exhaust treatment technologies on a selected inter-island ferry.

The initiative focuses on the use of Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOC) and Particulate Oxidation Catalysts (POC) to improve exhaust emissions performance and reduce the environmental impact of vessel operations. These technologies are designed to reduce harmful pollutants generated by diesel engines, including carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulate matter, contributing to improved air quality and more environmentally sustainable maritime transport.

Through the adoption of cleaner exhaust technologies, the project aims to support emissions reduction efforts, promote more sustainable vessel operations and contribute to broader environmental objectives within the maritime sector.
